Walk for a Kilo (Math P3)
To cultivate students' sense of scale, the math teacher arranged an experiential activity to guide them in understanding the length of 1 kilometer.
On a clear day, students started from school, walked 500 meters around Chai Wan Park, and returned to school. Along the way, they used watches, timers, and pedometers to measure the time and number of steps required. The teacher then guided the students to use this data to estimate the time and number of steps required to walk 1 kilometer.
Afterwards, based on the results of the activity, the students planned a route approximately 1 kilometer long near their homes and invited their parents to accompany them to verify their estimates. They reflected on the differences between their estimates and the actual route completed, extending their learning experience.
