Walk for a Kilo (Math P3)
To cultivate students' sense of scale, the math teacher arranged an experiential activity to guide them in understanding the length of 1 kilometer.
On a clear, sunny day, students started from school, walked 500 meters around Chai Wan Park, and returned to school. Along the way, they used watches, timers, and pedometers to measure the time and number of steps required. The teacher then guided the students to use this data to estimate the time and number of steps required to walk 1 kilometer.
Afterwards, based on what they learned from the activity, the students planned a route approximately 1 kilometer long near their residence to verify their estimations and extend their learning experience.
